Student allegedly threatens teacher at elementary school in Marion County

An investigation was launched after a student “with anger issues” allegedly made threats this past week toward an elementary school in Marion County.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded to Marion Oaks Elementary School in reference to the incident. The school’s principal told the deputy that a 10-year-old fifth grader had told a classmate on Wednesday around 1 p.m. that he was going to bring a gun to school, shoot the teacher and then shoot himself.

The school staff member stated that the boy “has some anger issues” and that he gets up out of his seat, walks out of the class, kicks chairs and will not stay in his seat. The boy also challenges any adult authority at the school, the report stated. The school staff member advised that the boy FaceTimed another student after school on Wednseday saying he was still thinking about doing this. The teacher then blocked his phone number.

The deputy made contact with the boy and his grandmother. He denied saying anything about a gun or shooting anyone, the report stated. The boy and his mother had a meeting with the principal and school staff on Friday.
