Driver facing felony charge after fleeing scene of crash on County Road 466

A 34-year-old Summerfield man is facing a felony charge of hit and run after fleeing the scene of an accident Thursday afternoon on County Road 466.

The crash occurred at 3:34 p.m. at the intersection of County Road 100 and County Road 466 and involved a white Ford van and 2014 silver Dodge Ram pickup. The driver of the pickup suffered neck and back injuries and the other driver fled the scene on foot.

Villages Public Safety Department personnel and the injured driver were able to provide a description of the man to Sumter County sheriff’s deputies. At 4:38 p.m., a call about a suspicious person was received in the same vicinity and deputies took into custody Justin Milton Cole.

He was taken back to the accident scene and identified as the driver who fled the scene.

He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $5,000 bond.
