Wildwood magistrate approves amended plan for housing, commercial development

Nearly a decade after it was proposed, a mixed-use project has been revived for the northwest corner of county roads 466A and 462.

At a meeting Tuesday of the Wildwood Planning and Zoning Board, Special Magistrate Grant Watson recommended approval of an amended plan for the 51-acre Turkey Run planned development. Watson’s recommendations are subject to approval by the city commission.

American House, an independent living facility with one- and two-bedroom apartments, was built on 7.5 acres of the site in 2012, but the rest of the project was delayed.

Turkey Run will include 314 units of multi-family housing on 21 acres, about 200,000 square feet of commercial space on 15 acres, a 98-unit assisted living/memory care facility on five acres and about 10 acres of open space, including a park area. No buildings will be more than three stories without special approval.

Maximum density for the multi-family housing is 15 units per acre.

According to project plans, the commercial area will be closest to the county road intersection with areas for the other uses behind it.

The project was proposed in August 2008 and an extension of the planned development ordinance was requested two years later due to economic conditions.
