Barbara Ann Erekson

Barbara Ann Erekson

Barbara Ann Erekson, of Summerfield, Florida, was born on July 27, 1939 in Lynn, Massachusetts and left this world on July 5, 2017, surrounded by her family. She was the eldest daughter of Ernest and Pearl Swenson of Lynn, Massachusetts.

Barbara was a strong, dynamic person who loved to laugh and held in highest esteem those who enjoyed a little humor. She was so many things – a gourmet cook, a longstanding guardian ad litem, a board member of her community travel club, an outstanding hostess who set the most beautiful tables, and a faithful member of the United Methodist Church – but she was above all a dedicated and supportive wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. Barbara had a long career, first as an Executive Secretary and later providing and managing customer service. She retired to Del Webb Spruce Creek Golf and Country Club in 2001 with great excitement, ready to travel with her husband Norm – spending many years seeing the world. Her grandchildren, all born during her retirement, brought her true joy.

She leaves her devoted husband of 56 years, Normand Erekson, and daughters Melissa Erekson and Maureen (Steven) Schwartz and grandchildren Patrick and Olivia Keefe and Miranda, Nicole, and Marc Schwartz. She also leaves her beloved sisters Virginia Beegan and Christine Swenson and many nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews. Her greatest sadness in life was that she was preceded in death by her son Michael Erekson, with whom she is surely now reunited.
Services will be held 11:30 a.m. Monday, July 10 at Belleview United Methodist Church 5640 SE Brown Rd. in Belleview.
