A 27-year-old Summerfield man was arrested Thursday after he allegedly battered a woman and then tried to blame her injuries on a flipped golf cart.

Matthew S. Beach of 16635 SE 104th Terrace was arrested on a charge of felony domestic battery by Marion County sheriff’s deputies.

He had gotten into a golf cart driven by the victim and started hitting her in the face, according to the arrest report. It caused her to lose control of the golf cart and it flipped. Law enforcement was called from a passerby’s cell phone. Beach then fled the scene.

Deputies caught up with Beach, who appeared to have been drinking.

He was booked at the Marion County Jail.

Beach had been convicted of battery on Sept. 6.
