92-year-old woman killed in rollover crash in Marion County

A 92-year-old woman was killed Tuesday night in a collision in Marion County.

Edwina Griffin of Newnan, Ga. had been a passenger in a 2013 Ford F-150 driven by 62-year-old Paul Griffin, also of Newnan, Ga., which collided with a 2013 Toyota Sienna driven by 32-year-old Jessica Thurow of Summerfield, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

Thurow’s passenger van was traveling westbound on County Road 484 in the right lane approaching the intersection of County Road 475 while the pickup truck was traveling southbound on County Road 475. Both vehicles entered the intersection at the same time resulting in a collision. The pickup truck rolled over in the intersection and collided with a concrete raised island. Edwina Griffin was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by Marion County Fire Rescue.

Her husband, 92-year-old John Griffin, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Ocala Regional Medical Center. Another passenger, 60-year-old Penny Griffin suffered minor injuries.

Thurow and a passenger in her van, 38-year-old Jeffrey Bates of Summerfield, escaped injury.
