An 81-year-old Michigan woman was killed after a vehicle in which she was a passenger left Interstate 95 on Monday morning in Volusia County.
Jerry Hershman, 77, of Clarkston, Mich. was driving a 2008 Chevrolet pickup truck northbound on I-95 with fellow passenger Carolyn Perry, 81, also from Clarkston, according to a Florida Highway Patrol accident report. For unknown reasons, Hershman’s truck traveled off the roadway, onto the right shoulder, causing the right side of the truck to strike a tree. Perry, as well as a small dog in the vehicle, died at the scene of the crash.
The crash remains under investigation. Hershman was transported to Halifax Medical Center with minor injuries.
