76-year-old man arrested in Village of Winifred after altercation with wife over their dog

Henry Robert Mabry

A 76-year-old man was arrested in the Village of Winifred after an altercation with his wife over their dog.

Henry Robert Mabry and his wife of 30 years had been out for dinner and drinks at a local restaurant and returned Friday night to their home on Rosebury Loop, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

The couple got into an argument over their dog. Mabry grew angry “began yelling at her and telling her how stupid she was,” the arrest report said. He then punched her, leaving a softball-size welt on her right upper arm.

Mabry’s wife then took the dog and fled to a neighbor’s home on Shalimar Street.

Mabry said he believed he slapped his wife on her right arm and then was struck by the victim, leaving a small cut on his nose, the report indicated.

He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $1,000 bond.
