72-year-old Stonecrester sentenced in connection with attempted theft at Bealls

Diane Gail Silverman

A 72-year-old Stonecrester was been sentenced in connection with the attempted theft of jewelry last month at Bealls.

Diane Gail Silverman entered the store on U.S. Hwy. 441 in Lady Lake shortly before noon Dec. 7, took several pieces of jewelry and concealed them in her purse, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. She then put on some additional jewelry and attempted to walk out of the store. She was stopped by the store’s loss prevention officer. She turned the items over to him. The total value of the merchandise was $175.79. She was arrested on a charge of petit theft.

Last month in Sumter County Court, Silverman entered a plea of guilty in the case. She was placed on probation for six months and ordered to perform 20 hours of community service.

Silverman had been arrested in 2016 in a suspected purse theft at a store at Lake Sumter Landing. Ultimately, the case was not prosecuted.
