71-year-old woman arrested in Village of Amelia after crashing open door with chair

Marion Laverne Plummer

A 71-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday night in the Village of Amelia after crashing open a door with a chair.

Sumter County sheriff’s deputies were called shortly after 7 p.m. to a home on Jem Path after Marion Laverne Plummer used a wooden kitchen chair to crash open the door to an office in the home.

She was enraged because an 89-year-old man and a woman had been working behind closed doors. Plummer said she felt disrespected because they had closed the door. The other woman was reportedly staying at the home.

Once Plummer broke into the room, the 89-year-old man attempted to grab her arms to stop her from attacking the other woman. Plummer scratched the man in an attempt to break free, the arrest report indicated.

Plummer was arrested on a charge of battery on a person over the age of 65. She was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center where she was initially being held without bond.
