Villagers were so irate over the announcement of a 10 percent water surcharge, they began bombarding the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office and a state agency with misplaced angry phone calls.
The surcharge was aimed at providing an incentive to conserve water, during the drought which was taking place in the first half of 2017.
Villages-News.com received numerous Letters to the Editor on the topic, with many asking why Sumter County was allowing a water bottling company to extract water, package and sell it.
