28-year-old man struck and killed by sheriff’s deputy’s patrol vehicle early New Year’s Day

A 28-year-old man was struck and killed by a Gilchrist County sheriff’s deputy’s patrol vehicle early New Year’s Day.

Max D. Bailey of Madison had been crossing U.S. 129 at 1:20 a.m. Monday when he was struck by a northbound marked SUV patrol vehicle driven by 35-year-old Stephen Stalvey, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

Bailey was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel.
