A 23 year-old resident of The Villages was arrested after leading Sumter County sheriff’s deputies on a brief golf cart chase late Thursday night.

Robert Cody Bell who lives on Inner Circle in The Villages was spotted in a golf cart with a woman at 11:05 p.m. near the entrance to Haciendas of Mission Hills.

Deputies noticed the golf cart parked on the golf cart path with its brake lights on. When Bell noticed the deputies in a parked squad car, he took off in the golf cart. Deputies activated the lights of the squad car and had to drive onto the golf cart path to make the traffic stop, according to the arrest report.

Bell told the deputies that he and his passenger had been drinking Jagermeister, the report indicated. The report also noted that Bell’s pants and zipper were undone.

The deputies asked Bell to complete field sobriety exercises, which he failed.

He was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center where he recorded .144 and .145 blood alcohol content in breath tests.

He was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence. Bond was set at $1,000.

The red EZ-Go golf cart was towed from the scene by Wildwood Auto.
