21-year-old killed after vehicle overturns, hits tree in Sumter County

A 21-year-old man died after his vehicle left the roadway, overturned and struck a tree Sunday morning in Sumter County.

Eric Mehlenbacher of Inverness had been at the wheel of a 2003 SAAB CV at 6:30 a.m. southbound on County Road 575 when he failed to negotiate a curve, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The vehicle overturned several times before hitting a tree.

Mehlenbacher, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the vehicle.

He was transported to Bayfront Medical Center in Brooksville where he was pronounced dead.
