72-year-old sex offender jailed after failure to register

A 72-year-old sex offender was jailed after his failure to register with law enforcement.

Jerdon Beal Smith of Ocklawaha was arrested Tuesday by Marion County sheriff’s deputies after he failed to properly follow registration procedures during the month of May.

Smith was convicted in 2020 in Miami-Dade County of a federal offense of intent to view pornography.

Smith has been released on $2,000 bond.
