Driver dies at scene of rollover crash in Sumter County

A 49-year-old Lacoochee man died at the scene of a rollover crash Tuesday afternoon in Sumter County.

He had been at the wheel of a Chevy C1500 pickup which was westbound on State Road 50 when he collided nearly head on with a Subaru Outback driven by a 51-year-old Dade City man, who had lost control of his vehicle and drove into the path of the pickup, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The Subaru Outback continued forward and nearly collided head on with a Honda Pilot driven by a 45-year-old Mascote man.

The Lacoochee man’s pickup overturned “multiple times,” the report noted. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Dade City man driving the Subaru Outback escaped injury. The Mascotte man and his two female passengers did not suffer any injuries.
