Pickup driver killed after crashing into undercarriage of tractor trailer truck

The driver of a pickup was killed early Friday morning after crashing into the undercarriage of a tractor trailer truck.

A 29-year-old Crystal River man was driving the pickup at 4:50 a.m. eastbound on County Road 476 in southern Sumter County when he approached an intersection and failed to yield. He crashed into the tractor trailer truck which was northbound on State Road 471, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The driver of the pickup died at the scene of the crash. A 63-year-old Coleman man driving the tractor trailer truck was uninjured.

The investigation into the crash prompted lane blockage and detours for several hours.
