Idalia’s growing strength prompts Villages Charter School to cancel classes

Idalia’s growing strength has prompted The Villages Charter School to cancel classes.

Originally, the charter school indicated classes would continue, even after Sumter County Schools announced that classes would be canceled on Wednesday and Thursday.

However, that changed on Tuesday as predictions grew regarding Idalia’s intensity.

“Based upon the latest weather reports and predictions as a result of Hurricane Idalia, we have decided to not hold school on Wednesday, August 30th. We understand this decision may cause hardship on some families that still need to report to work, but the forecast for tomorrow (especially the morning commute time frame) looks troublesome,” the charter school said in an announcement.

All school activities for Wednesday are canceled.

The school anticipates reopening on Thursday.

A makeup day for Wednesday will be Monday, Oct. 16.
