Ronald James “Ron” Bacon, 76, of The Villages, Florida, passed away Monday, March 20, 2023, with his loving family beside him.

Ron was born Sept. 14, 1946, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of the Rev. R. Gordon and Phyllis (Reisenburg) Bacon. Ron attended school in Elkhart, Indiana, graduating from Elkhart High School in 1964. He then attended Indiana University, subsequently transferring to Bethel College where he received his bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. He later earned a master’s degree from Indiana University. Ron was a teacher in the Elkhart Public School system for several years, later pursuing a career as a UNISERVE director helping public school teachers in Indiana, Kansas, Colorado, California, Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan.

In 1967, Ron was united in marriage to Marsha Francis. They were blessed with two daughters, Amy and Anina. Ron later married Deb Demitros on June 6, 1987.

Upon retirement, Ron and Deb moved to Port Charlotte, Florida. In 2013, they relocated to The Villages, Florida, where they met many new friends and welcomed family members into their home. Ron was an avid reader, a lover of music, and enjoyed playing cards and golf with his many friends. He was an active leader in the Hope Lutheran Church where he was extremely generous with his time and talents.

Ron is survived by his wife, Deb Bacon of The Villages, Florida; his daughters, Amy Dee Francis-Bacon (Mark Dionne) of Parrish, Florida, and Anina Dee Bacon (Van Bacon) of Fresno, California; two grandchildren Ethan (Erin) Asma and Isabelle Asma; and a great-grandson Elijah Asma, all of Florida. Ron is also survived by two brothers and one sister: Joel (Carol) Bacon of San Antonio, Texas, Robert (Carol) Bacon of Slater, Iowa, and Barbara (David) Kling of Miami, Florida, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held Thursday, March 23, at Hope Lutheran-Lake Weir Church, Summerfield, FL 34491. Inurnment will be at a later date.
