A teen with a stolen gun was arrested after a shooting victim was airlifted to Ocala Regional Medical Center.
The 17-year-old was taken into custody as a result of the shooting which occurred Thursday night at the Spring Lake Cove Apartments in Fruitland Park. The teen barricaded himself inside when law enforcement arrived on the scene, but ultimately surrendered. He was in possession of a Smith & Wesson M&P 45 handgun, which was stolen.
The teen used the gun to shoot a 20-year-old man in the thigh. A second bullet grazed the chest of the shooting victim’s 48-year-old father.
Interviewed at the hospital, the 20-year-old shooting victim said the teen shooter had made “sexual advances” toward his girlfriend, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department. The shooting victim said he messaged the teen and told him to stop. The teen showed up with friends at the man’s home, where gunfire erupted.
The teen is facing two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon as well as a charge of grand theft of a firearm.
