A woman who was in the trunk of car a during a hit-and-run crash in Wildwood has been jailed without bond.

Marshay Denise Edwards, 22, of Wildwood, had been riding in the trunk of a Chevrolet passenger car Wednesday night that crashed into a chain link fence in Wildwood. The driver of the vehicle, 18-year-old Ja’Keriya Shontay Thompson of Ocala, was arrested on charges of hit and run and fleeing to elude law enforcement. Thompson fled the scene but was later persuaded by her mother, the owner of the vehicle, to return to the crash site.

While Wildwood police officers were “clearing” the vehicle, they found Edwards in the trunk. She was wanted on a Sumter County warrant and was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center after a medical evaluation at UF Health-The Villages Hospital Brownwood ER.

Edwards was arrested earlier this year after reportedly crashing a party. Last year, she was arrested after pepper spraying a man as well as breaking the passenger side taillight and passenger side mirror of his 2007 Infiniti. In 2018, Edwards and another woman were arrested on charges of prescription forgery.
