Fruitland Park Commission OKs repurposing library book money for police riot gear

With the unrest and demonstrations that have been going on across the country, Fruitland Park Commissioners agreed Thursday to purchase riot gear for its police department with money that originally had been earmarked for library books.

The action will allow the police department to add $10,191 to its supplies budget for the needed equipment. The items that will be purchased include 20 helmets, face shields, riot shields and riot batons. In addition, a 24-by36-inch curved shield will be purchased for $1,950.
