A potential $10,000 parking area is being considered at a recently upgraded playground in The Villages.
Earlier this year, the Wilkerson Creek Park & Children’s Playground, which is across from Sonny’s BBQ restaurant at Lake Sumter Landing, saw a major renovation. The updated playground now has American with Disabilities Act accessible features such as play panels at ground level, musical instruments and cognitive play components. A rubberized play surface and an engineered shade structure are now part of the popular playground.
Now, the Project Wide Advisory Committee is considering adding a formal parking lot for golf carts. An informal parking area of mulch and pine straw exists, but PWAC is considering something befitting the upgraded play area.
At the high end an asphalt parking area for four to five golf carts could cost $10,000. Other less-expensive options are also being explored.
