A 60-year-old Summerfield woman was jailed Wednesday after packing up her gal pal roommate’s belongings and telling her to stay away.
Jeanene Lacey Villareal told Marion County sheriff’s deputies that her roommate left the residence for a few days and wasn’t allowed back into her house. She said that while her roommate was away, she packed and removed her belongings from her room, a sheriff’s office report states.
The roommate said she didn’t give Villareal permission to enter her room. She said had locked the door to the room before she left for a couple of days to “get away” to a hotel with her boyfriend.
Deputies discovered that Villareal had removed her roommate’s bed from her room and when asked where it was, she claimed she sold it for rent money. But the roommate said her bed and her belongings – in sealed cardboard boxes – were in a locked shed behind the residence. Deputies told Villareal that her roommate was going to put her belongings back into her room and she replied, “Not she’s not,” the report says.
Inside the roommate’s room, deputies noticed “clothes all over the place and boxes thrown across the room.” The report notes that Villareal “forcefully broke into the victim’s room and deprived the victim of her property,” which was estimated to be worth $750.
Villareal reiterated to deputies that she removed her roommate’s property because she didn’t want to her to live there anymore. She said multiple times that she wasn’t allowed in the residence, adding that “it was her house and she can do what she wants,” the report says.
Villareal, who originally is from Leesburg, was then placed under arrest and transported to the Marion County Jail, where she was charged with burglary of an unoccupied dwelling and grand theft. She is being held on $4,000 bond and is due in court June 30 at 9 a.m. to answer to the charges, jail records show.
