Another inmate at state prison in Bushnell tests positive for Coronavirus

COVID-19 continues to be an issue for the state prison in Bushnell, where another inmate has tested positive for the potentially deadly virus.

The Sumter Correctional Institution, located at 9544 County Road 476B, is now reporting 120 cases of the Coronavirus divided among 104 staff prisoners and 16 staff members. The facility also is reporting 57 negative tests and 881 inmates are being kept in medical quarantine.

The tri-county area – Sumter, Lake and Marion counties – reported 763 COVID-19 cases on Saturday. Those were comprised of 410 men, 334 women and 19 non-residents. There have been 37 deaths and 149 people have been hospitalized.

Sumter County is reporting 253 cases divided among 180 men, 72 women and one non-resident. There have been 17 deaths and 44 people have been hospitalized.

Lake County is now reporting 273 cases among 128 men, 132 women and 13 non-residents. There have been 15 deaths and 74 people have received care in area hospitals.

Marion County is reporting 237 COVID-19 cases. Those are divided among 102 men, 130 women and five non-residents. There have been five deaths and 31 people have required hospitalization.

All told, Florida is reporting 50,867 cases – an increase of 740 from Friday to Saturday. Of those, 49,547 are residents. There have been 2,237 deaths and 9,381 people have been hospitalized across the Sunshine State.
