To the Editor:
I sold my home in Tierra Del Sol a few years back when I built “down south.”
My neighbor had painted their home “painters tape blue” – a really awful color. It seems to be the same situation. They painted it with no approval, and with complete disregard for their neighbors.
While my house was for sale, it became very obvious that it cost me prospects/sales. Some realtors would park in front and their clients would look and then drive off. Often the clients would not even come in! First, it was ugly. Second, they could only assume that our “neighbor” was either a nut basket, or at a minimum a bad neighbor. In fact, both were true. We even offered to pay for a repaint job.
In the end, it is of course impossible, to quantify our loss. There is however, no doubt that the “blue house” cost us between $15K and $40K by the time we sold it.
