AAC rejects Fenney-style ‘zero entry’ pool at First Responders Recreation Center

The Amenity Authority Committee has rejected a Fenney-style “zero entry” swimming pool to be constructed at the new First Responders Recreation Center to be built in Community Development District 4.

First Responders Recreation Center will be built on property purchased for $2 million last year from the First Baptist Church of The Villages.

The AAC on Wednesday made a decision about the style of pool to be built at the site of the new recreation center.

The choices before the AAC were a Fenney-style pool with its unique “zero entry” feature or the type of swimming pool available the Cattail Recreation Center. The pool at that recreation center has a more traditional ladder and stairway entry, as well as a chairlift.

AAC member Don Deakin, a supervisor in CDD 4, was the strongest proponent of the Fenney-style pool. He suggested that residents have seen the uniqueness of the Fenney pool and would like something like that pool for themselves.

However, the AAC voted 4-2 in favor of the Cattail-style pool. Those opposed to the Fenney-style pool indicated the length of the zero-entry area consumed too much room which could be devoted to deeper water.

Deakin and Lowell Barker voted in favor of the Fenney-style pool. AAC members Carl Bell, Robert Chandler IV,  Ann Forrester and John Wilcox voted for the Cattail-style pool.
