A boy recovering from an ATV crash earlier this month off Rolling Acres Road desperately needs a wheelchair ramp at his home as part of his rehabilitation.
The boys who had been riding the ATV – 12-year-old Caiden McPeters and 14-year-old Kaileb Gilliam – were airlifted Oct. 14 from the scene and helicoptered to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital in Orlando. Their ATV collided with a a 2016 Acura driven by Thomas Segrich of The Villages, according to the Florida Highway Patrol, which investigated the accident.
Caiden has been undergoing rehabilitation at Orlando Regional Medical Center. His family, which includes five younger sisters, has been struggling to keep up after the accident. Relatives and friends have been pitching in to help pay for gas for the Fruitland Park family to travel back and forth to Orlando. Caiden’s mother, Jessica McPeters, has been staying at the Ronald McDonald House.
“We have a long road ahead,” she said.
The next step is to construct a wheelchair ramp so Caiden can begin to recover at home.
“We are in desperate need of a wheelchair ramp to be built. We have a small supply of wood to start, but we don’t have much else,” Jessica McPeters said.
The family is seeking contributions for the wheelchair ramp at a GoFundMe page.
