A Lady Lake woman who wanted to surrender her dog because of its aggressive nature was bitten while attempting to put the 10-year-old Shih Tzu in a cage.
The woman, who lives in the 2900 block of Sunrise Road, first called Lady Lake Animal Control on Sept. 19 to surrender the dog because she had children in her house and she was afraid someone else will get bitten as well. But when an animal control official returned the woman’s call, she said the Shih Tzu that goes by T-Bone or Tebo had bitten her on her right index finger. She said she had only had the dog a few weeks and the previous owner said it had received all of its shots, but she didn’t have any paperwork to prove that.
The Lady Lake Animal Control official told the woman that her information would be forwarded to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office’s bite coordinator because even though she has a Lady Lake address, she’s in that agency’s jurisdiction. The owner also was told that it didn’t sound like a dog Lady Lake Animal Control would pick up because it’s aggressive and not likely to be adopted out to a new owner.
The bite report was forwarded to Lake County Animal Control and the Lake County Health Department. The Lake County bite coordinator couldn’t pick up Tebo for quarantine, so the woman was emailed a Home Quarantine Agreement form to sign. As of Friday, Sept. 20, the county hadn’t received the form back from the dog owner, a report says.
