A CNA was arrested after allegedly helping herself to the checkbook of a 99-year-old Villager who was a patient at a rehabilitation center.
The nephew of the Village of Del Mar woman received an alert from his aunt’s bank, making him aware a check had been cashed for $700, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. The nephew told police that the check had been made out to 32-year-old Crystal Beall, of Tavares, a CNA who had been caring for his aunt at Villages Rehab on County Road 466 in Lady Lake.
During an interview with police, Beall claimed the 99-year-old Villager wrote her the check as a gift after she was venting about car repair issues. The elderly woman denied she had written the check.
A warrant was obtained for Beall’s arrest on a charge of fraud. She was taken into custody and booked at the Lake County Jail. She was released after posting $2,000 bond.
Beall had been arrested earlier this year on a charge of driving while license suspended and in 2012 on a charge of contempt of court.
Police have previously been summoned to the Villages Rehab:

• In 2017, a bulletin was issued for a Villages Rehab certified nursing assistant who stole a credit card from a sedated 81-year-old patient. The CNA was tracked down after a string of purchases on the woman’s credit card.
• That same year, a Villages Rehab employee was arrested after reportedly threatening another woman with a box cutter in the facility’s parking lot. Those charges were later dropped.
• In 2016, a dead woman’s iPad was reported stolen at Villages Rehab.
• In 2014, a 19-year-old housekeeper was arrested after stealing an iPhone 6 from a patient at Villages Rehab.
