Summerfield woman with ammo in her vehicle jailed after running stop sign

Jennifer Marie Rottman

A Summerfield woman was arrested Sunday at midnight when a sheriff’s sergeant saw her fail to come to a complete stop at a stop sign at the Tiki Hut Internet Café on County Road 466.

The sergeant performed a traffic stop on the green Chevy SUV and made contact with the driver, 34-yer-old Jennifer Marie Rottman, who said she didn’t have her driver’s license with her. She said she knew her license was suspended because of traffic fines, a sheriff’s office report states.

Another deputy confirmed that Rottman had two prior suspensions on July 23, 2018 and July 25, 2019, both for failing to pay court obligations. A check of her background also showed that she had been found guilty four times of driving with a suspended, canceled or revoked license. And the license tag on her SUV came back as being registered to a different vehicle, the report says.

During a search of Rottman’s vehicle, 20 rounds of .308 ammunition was found in the center console. Another background search showed that she had five felony convictions, with the most recent being on Dec. 6, 2012 for habitual driving with license suspended or revoked, the report says.

Rottman, who lives at 17776 SE 27th Ave. in Summerfield, was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center and charged with possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon, failure to register a motor vehicle and driving while license suspended (third or subsequent offense). She was being held on $5,000 bond.
