Mother jailed after two-year-old child found wandering near convenience store

Crystal Gayle Gordon

A mother was arrested after her two-year-old child was found wandering alone near a convenience store.

The child was spotted at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday near Bob’s Zippy Mart on Dixie Avenue in Fruitland Park. It was determined the child had escaped through a window of a nearby home and walked about a block to a wooded area near Bob’s Zippy Mart. A Good Samaritan found the child and called law enforcement. The child was taken to the Fruitland Park Fire Rescue station prior to pickup by the Department of Children and Families.

The child’s mother, 38-year-old Crystal Gayle Gordon, was located at her home at 210 Park Ave. in Fruitland Park, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department. Officers could not get her to come to the door because she “didn’t want to,” according to the report.

She was arrested on a charge of child neglect and booked at the Lake County Jail. She was released after posting $3,000 bond.
