Thomas Marvin Twitmyer

Thomas Twitmyer

Thomas (Tom) Marvin Twitmyer formerly of Philadelphia, New York State and Connecticut, passed away at the age of 82 on Sunday, April 21, 2019. He was the son of late Edward and Elizabeth Twitmyer, Philadelphia, PA.  Survivors are his loving partner of 28 years, Maggie Butler and his 3 wonderful children, Carole (Brian) of Brooklyn, NY; Tom (Michelle) of Dade City, FL., Susan (Rick) Dyer of Vienna, VA. and his brother Robert (Lisa) of PA.  He was a very proud grandfather to Alex (Casey), Jessica, Max, Allison and Karly (Dyer) and great grandfather to Sadie and James Thomas.

Tom grew up in Philadelphia excelling at sports at a very young age.  At Penn Charter he was captain and quarterback of the football team, and a predominate player at baseball and basketball.  In 1955 he earned the Alumni Society award on qualifications of scholarship, character, leadership and athletic ability.  Just one of many awards he earned over the next few years.  He was a 2009 inductee in Penn Charter Athletic Hall of Fame.  In 1960 he received a BS in Economics from University of Pennsylvania Wharton School and again contributed to the football team’s success as quarterback.

He had a long and successful career in the wire and cable industry starting out at Reynolds Metals, PA in 1965.  His last position held from 1974 until he retired in 2013 was as VP of Sales at JJ Lowe Ass., Danbury, CT.

Tom’s happiest times were spent with his children and family, and coaching youngsters in sports. He moved to The Villages in 2014 and loved the lifestyle, especially playing golf.  A boyhood friend described Tom as an outstanding human being, kind to the quiet people along the way and universally admired by his peers”.  A gentle giant.  He was passionate about sports, but could converse on any subject.  His intelligence matched his great sense of humor and his humility.
