A Villager will escape prosecution after a brawl with her husband earlier this year over pickleball.
Lan Nguyen Augustus, 61, of the Village of Charlotte, had been arrested March 11 on a felony charge of battery on a person over the age of 65.
Her husband had been lying in bed in the master bedroom when the couple got into an argument over a pickleball clinic being offered in The Villages. She punched him and struck him with a small metal easel, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
After her arrest, Augustus was released on $5,000 bond, banned from her home on Countryside Path and ordered not to have contact with her husband, to whom she has been married for 19 years.
However, a motion was filed March 19 requesting that Augustus be allowed to return to her home. Her husband supported her return, according to the motion.
Earlier this month the prosecutor’s office announced no information would be filed in the case, citing “victim/witness issues.”
