Teen jailed in theft of more than $1,000 in merchandise in three trips to Belk

A teenager has been arrested in the alleged theft of more than $1,000 in merchandise during three trips to Belk at La Plaza Grande in The Villages.

Zachary Thomas Gosson, 18, of Weirsdale, was taken into custody Monday afternoon following his arrest on a felony charge of shoplifting.

He admitted to stealing $1,039 worth of clothing, shoes and jewelry in trips to the store on Monday, Sunday and Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. Gosson told police he would take the items into a dressing room, remove the tags, place the items under the clothing he was wearing and walk out of the store. He was wearing three pairs of pants at the time of his arrest. Several items were recovered from Gosson’s friend’s car.

The Massachusetts native was booked at the Lake County Jail, where bond was set at $2,500.
