An employee of a local care center was arrested after an alleged attack on an Alzheimer’s patient.
Wildwood police were called Friday morning to the Cypress Care Center after 58-year-old Valorie Martin, of Wildwood, struck the back of the head of an Alzheimer’s patient who is confined to a wheelchair, according to an arrest report.
There had been complaints that the Alzheimer’s patient had been running into other patients with a wheelchair. The Alzheimer’s patient, who also suffers from Parkinson’s Disease, had apparently tried to slap Martin when she was approached, the report indicated.
There were witnesses and the incident was captured on video surveillance.
The manager of the facility signed an intent to prosecute, acting on behalf of the victim.
Martin was arrested on a felony charge of crimes against a person. She was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $2,000 bond.
Earlier this year, a former Cypress Care Center employee was sentenced after slapping a patient who was trying to consume an Ensure.
