A 31-year-old woman avoided a trip to jail Sunday night by being honest with Marion County sheriff’s deputies about marijuana in her vehicle.
A sheriff’s deputy stopped a blue 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe around 11 p.m. Sunday as it was pulling out of Harbour View Elementary School, located at 8445 SE 147th Place in Summerfield. As the deputy was standing at the driver’s side front door explaining the reason for the traffic stop, he smelled the odor of raw marijuana coming from the vehicle, the report says.
When questioned about the marijuana, the woman told the deputy she had about four grams of the drug in a garment bag next to her. She then explained to another deputy exactly where to locate the marijuana within her belongings, the report says.
The marijuana was collected and placed into evidence to be destroyed. Because of the weight of the drug and the honesty of the woman, she was charged with a misdemeanor. And she didn’t have to take a trip to the Marion County Jail, the report says.
