Construction worker arrested after allegedly stealing tools from fellow workers at job site

Elijah Lincoln Hockman

A construction worker was arrested after allegedly stealing tools from fellow workers at a job site in Lady Lake.

Police were called at 2 p.m. Tuesday to a job site at 955 S. U.S. Hwy. 27/441, where the construction site manager reported that several employees had complained that tools had been stolen during their lunch break, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department.

One worker said her red-and-black Milwaukee cordless impact drill was spotted in the backseat of a co-worker’s vehicle. The co-worker, 22-year-old Elijah Lincoln Hockman, of Mims, said he had “accidentally taken the drill.” Other cordless drills were found in the vehicle.

Hockman began to apologize and said he was going through “a hard time.” The total value of the stolen tools was $739.

He was arrested on a charge of grand theft. He was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $2,000 bond.
