South Sumter Middle School employee honored with prestigious award

A Sumter County School District employee has earned a prestigious award.

The nominees for Sumter County School District Employee of the Year were, from left, Thomas Kline, Beverley Webb, Amy Nowicki, Angel Field, Shannon Woodard, Alnetrice Duncan, Lynn Ellis, Carol Graham, Alana Ortega and Billy Goble. Field was selected as the winner, with Nowicki and Ellis being the other two finalists.

Angel Field, who works at South Sumter Middle School, recently was recognized as the District’s School Related Employee of the Year. She was one of three finalists and was selected by a committee consisting of business and community leaders who aren’t employed by the school district. She now moves into the next phase of the program – the state competition.

All of the nominees for the award were recognized recently by the Sumter County School Board. Family, friends and co-workers accompanied the honorees to a reception at the school board office and then to the awards presentation ceremony that followed.

“We are so honored to have such quality staff within our school district,” said Superintendent Richard A. Shirley. “They don’t just do their jobs well, they also perform their duties with great care and compassion for our students.”

In addition to Field, the nominees were:

  • Lynn Ellis – Sumter PREP Academy;
  • Carol Graham – Wildwood Middle High School;
  • Amy Nowicki – Bushnell Elementary School;
  • Shannon Woodard – South Sumter High School;
  • Thomas Kline – Wildwood Elementary School;
  • Beverley Webb – Lake Panasoffkee Elementary School;
  • Alana Ortega – Webster Elementary School;
  • Alnetrice Duncan – Transportation; and
  • Billy Goble – District Office/SPC/Facilities.

 The process for selecting the School Related Employee of the Year starts at the school or site level, where nominees are selected by their peers. Those winners are then asked to submit a portfolio that includes a history of training, recognitions, contributions to their school and community, and letters of recommendation.

The portfolios are then reviewed by a committee of district administrators and three finalists are chosen. This year, the other two finalists were Nowicki and Ellis.

The Florida School Related Employee of the Year Program recognizes outstanding education support personnel for their contributions to their schools and communities. The program honors one state representative and four finalists who have demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication in the performance of their jobs, thereby earning them the respect and admiration of students, teachers, administrators and parents.
