A Stonecrest man who was found Tuesday by a Good Samaritan confused and disoriented at a Villages hotel is back in the safe confines of his own home.
The 81-year-old man’s wife told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that she was concerned about his well-being because he suffers from early onset dementia. The 63-year-old woman also said she had tried to call him shortly before 5 p.m. but realized he didn’t have his cell phone with him, the report says, adding that the man didn’t have any immediate medical issues and wasn’t taking any medications.
Several deputies patrolled the area looking for the man with no luck. But about an hour later, a Stonecrest gate guard reported that a Good Samaritan who was staying at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites near Spanish Springs Town Square in The Villages was bringing the man home.
The hotel guest said he had spotted the lost Stonecrester standing in the parking lot holding a piece of paper and looking disoriented, the report says, adding that the guest was able to get the man’s address from his driver’s license.
The man didn’t have an explanation for wandering away from his home. His wife said he has “good days and bad days.” She said she would be taking him to his physician to see what, if anything, could be done to help him. And she promised to look into getting someone to stay with the man when she is at work, the report says.
The deputy contacted to the Florida Department of Children and Families about the situation, which elected to take a report. He also spoke with a crisis intervention specialist, who came to the man’s home and provided him with a GPS bracelet, the report says.
