Carmendy Square Townhomes teen arrested after gun found tucked under car’s seat

Eugene Akim

A Carmendy Square Townhomes resident was arrested after a gun was found tucked under the seat of a car he was driving.

Eugene Akim, 19, who resides in the apartment complex in Lady Lake, had been driving a blue Chevy four-door at 9:37 p.m. New Year’s Eve when he was caught on radar traveling 73 miles per hour in a 50 mph zone on U.S. Hwy. 27/441, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department.

A check revealed Akim was wanted on warrants charging him with dealing in stolen property and providing false information to a pawn broker. A search of the vehicle turned up a Glock 43 concealed under the driver’s seat.

He was taken into custody on the warrants, as well as a charge of possession of a concealed firearm.

He was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $32,000 bond.
