Man arrested at Pinellas Plaza after failing to signal when changing lanes of traffic

James Harris

A man who failed to use his signal when changing lanes of traffic was arrested after a traffic stop Wednesday night at Pinellas Plaza in The Villages.

James M. Harris, 46, of Summerfield, had been driving a 2002 Chevrolet Sport Utility Vehicle at 9:20 p.m. when he crossed two lanes of traffic on County Road 466A and made a left turn at Pinellas Plaza without using his signal, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department.

When the officer approached the vehicle, it was noted that Harris was not wearing his seatbelt and the odor of marijuana was detected. Harris initially attempted to give the officer a false name, because he was driving on a suspended license. During a pat down, Harris admitted he had a syringe in his pocket. The syringe tested positive for heroin. A marijuana cigar and loose remnants of cannabis were found in the vehicle.

Harris was arrested on charges of driving while license suspended, fraud, possession of marijuana and possession of drug equipment. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center.
