Man arrested in alleged theft of items  at Goodwill Superstore in Oxford

A man was arrested early Monday morning in the alleged theft of items at the Goodwill Superstore in Oxford.

A Wildwood police officer was on patrol at 2:42 a.m. when he spotted a suspicious vehicle near the rear entrance of the store. The officer spotted a man, later identified as 28-year-old Steven Alan Smith, of Summerfield, who was wearing dark clothing, black gloves and a mask. Smith claimed he was looking for clothing for his children. He had assembled a pile of items including a computer monitor, skateboard, women’s clothing and other items valued at $900 to $1,000, according to the arrest report.

Smith was arrested on charges of burglary, grand theft and loitering. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $7,500 bond.
