Bag discovered at Villages recreation center traced to stolen vehicle, dead parents

The Silver Lake Recreation Center

A mysterious bag discovered at a recreation center in The Villages was traced to car stolen elsewhere in the state.

A Fresh Market bag was found on Nov. 5 at the Silver Lake Recreation Center on the Historic Side of The Villages. The bag was stored at the recreation center for about a week, with the thought that someone would claim it. When no one claimed it, the manager looked inside and found that it contained a Social Security card, veterans identification card, a death certificate and a life insurance policy. The recreation center manager contacted the Lady Lake Police Department.

Information in the bag led to a Winter Springs man who said that his vehicle had been stolen from his residence and recovered days later in Bithlo, which is located east of Orlando. He said the bag had been in his vehicle when it was stolen and the items in the bag belonged to his deceased parents.
