A man was caught smoking marijuana during his wife’s treatment at a cancer center in Lady Lake.
An employee walked by a car parked at InterCommunity Cancer Center at 922 Rolling Acres Road this past Wednesday and noticed the distinct odor of marijuana, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. She reported it to her office manager, who then contacted police.
When an officer arrived on the scene, he found 67-year-old Roy Eugene Holland, of Ocala, in a four-door Nissan with a white-and-brown dog in the backseat. Holland told the officer he was waiting for his wife to finish her cancer treatment.
The officer asked Holland if he had been smoking marijuana, something Holland initially denied. But then he turned over a metallic pipe and about a gram of marijuana.
Holland apologized and asked the officer to “cut him a break.” Holland also admitted he was carrying a .40-caliber Smith & Wesson semi-automatic firearm. He turned it over to the police officer.
Holland was issued a misdemeanor citation for possession of marijuana and his weapon was returned to him.
