Lake-Sumter State College unveils continuing education course schedule

Lake-Sumter State College’s Continuing Education will offer several courses in October and November.

Continuing Education courses are non-credit classes offered to support or enhance business, industry, government, and general recreation in the communities of Lake and Sumter Counties.

To register for a course, visit LSSC.edu/CE or contact Continuing Education at (352) 435-5038 or ConEd@LSSC.edu. Courses are offered at all Lake-Sumter State College locations – Leesburg at 9501 U.S. Hwy. 441, Clermont at 1250 N. Hancock Rd. and Sumterville at 1405 County Road 526A.

WRITE YOUR LIFE
This program consists of a variety of short sections that examine your life from differing perspectives. It is geared towards seniors with little or no formal writing experience. Worksheets are concise and encourage you to explore the nature of your life. You then put it together in an interesting and readable form. You will be coached with every step in the creation of the story of your life, which will be remembered and cherished for generations to come.
Date: Oct. 9–Nov. 13, Tuesdays 9:30–11:30 a.m. Location: Leesburg Campus, Health Sciences Center, Room 116. Fee: $50.

SECURITY OFFICER “D” LICENSE
This program is a 40-hour training class that will teach students the basic principles of security, including physical security, access control, terrorism awareness and emergency procedures. Skill development includes report writing, interviewing techniques and crime and accident prevention.
Date: Nov. 12–16, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Location: Leesburg Campus, Liberal Arts Building, Room 3. Registration Deadline: Nov. 5. Fee: $200.

Lake-Sumter State College South Lake campus.

CONTINUING SPANISH, STARTING CONVERSATIONS (SPANISH 2)
This is a continuation of the Spanish language with emphasis on practicing and/or reinforcing your Spanish-speaking and listening skills. Students must have taken the Beginner’s course or already know the fundamentals of the Spanish language.
Date: Oct. 23–Nov. 15, Tuesdays and Thursdays 6–8 p.m. Location: South Lake Campus, Cooper Memorial Library, Room 120. Registration Deadline: Oct. 16. Fee: $80.

Lake-Sumter State College Sumterville campus.

OPERATION OF AN EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER (DIRECTOR CREDENTIAL)
This 45-hour noncredit course will fulfill the requirements for the foundational level credentials for directors/administrators of childcare centers, as set forth by Florida Children’s Forum. Those attending can increase their knowledge and skill level in a variety of administrative areas and enhance their center’s ability to secure bank loans, corporate support and grants due to increased credibility. Additional topics covered include childcare and educational organizational leadership and management; childcare, financial and legal issues; non-discrimination and cultural sensitivity; assessment and documentation; and monitoring health, safety and nutrition.
Date: Oct. 30–Dec. 13, Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:30–9:30 p.m. Location: Sumter Center, Clark Maxwell Building, Room 4110. Registration Deadline: Oct. 24. Fee: $200.

Sunrise Dental in Leesburg

EXPANDED FUNCTIONS/RADIOLOGY CERTIFICATION
This program consists of a 32-hour Expanded Functions component and a 16-hour Radiology component. The program covers techniques and procedures that, upon completion, will demonstrate the competency and satisfactory completion of both the EFDA component and the Radiology component of the program.
Date: Nov. 17–Dec. 1, Saturdays and Sundays 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Location: Sunrise Dental, 1380 West N. Blvd., Leesburg. Fee: $950.
