A man driving his dead grandmother’s Cadillac was arrested early Tuesday after a traffic stop at a busy intersection.
Jonathan Shea Garrard, 44, of Wildwood, had been driving the gray Cadillac CTS southbound on U.S. 301 when a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy noticed that the license plate had a registration that had expired in 2011. A traffic stop was initiated at the intersection of U.S. 301 and County Road 472, where a motorcyclist was killed last month.
Garrard admitted his driver’s license was suspended and a check revealed he had four convictions for driving while license suspended. He also admitted he knew the Cadillac was not properly registered and said it hadn’t been since the death of its owner, his grandmother.
He was taken into custody and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. He was released after posting $2,000 bond.
