A Community Watch driver left a gaping hole in a wall after his truck ran into it when he reportedly fell asleep at the wheel while on patrol.
Terald Lee Waller, 69, of the Village of Calumet Grove, had been at the wheel of a 2016 Nissan Frontier Community Watch pickup at 5 a.m. Tuesday in the San Antonio Villas off Morse Boulevard when the accident occurred.
He had been headed north on Enconto Street approaching Alcona Avenue when the truck struck the wall, according to an accident report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
The four-year veteran of Community Watch told a deputy investigating the crash that he must have fallen asleep. Waller was not injured.
Damage to the wall was estimated to be about $1,000. Damage to the truck was estimated at $5,000. It had to be towed from the scene.
Waller was ticketed on a charge of careless driving.
