Lake EMS summons police after witnessing car hit tree in Lady Lake

Blaine Shaddrick Johnson

A Lake County EMS crew called Lady Lake police for help after witnessing an erratic driver hit a tree on Hermosa Street.

Blaine Shaddrick Johnson, 48, of Leesburg, was arrested early Thursday morning and charged with driving under the influence. When officers arrived just before 1:30 a.m., the EMS crew was with Johnson, whose car had come to rest on the sidewalk. He was unstable, had slurred speech, glassy and watery eyes and smelled like alcohol, a Lady Lake police report states.

Johnson admitted to drinking alcoholic beverages before driving, the report said. He failed several sobriety tests and was transported to the Lady Lake Police Department, where he provided breath samples showing levels of .201 and .186 blood alcohol content. The legal limit in Florida is .08.

Johnson was then taken to the Lake County Jail and later released after paying a $1,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Lake County Court on May 30.
