A man convicted in a 1993 homicide in Sumter County, has been arrested in the death of a woman whose body was found Monday near Webster.
Stanley Tarrand, 40, was arrested Thursday morning in Clermont on a charge of murder in connection with the death of 63-year-old Fannie Rose Houck.
Sumter County sheriff’s detectives followed leads which placed Houck with Tarrand in the Tampa Bay area. Detectives were able to use cellular phone data and place Houck within a half mile of Tarrand’s residence. Houck’s body was discovered Monday on County Road 711 in Webster, approximately eight miles from Tarrand’s residence.
Houck was shot execution style with a single gunshot wound to the back of the head.
Detectives obtained a search warrant for Tarrand’s residence which is located in Lake County. A firearm believed to have been used to kill Houck was found in Tarrand’s vehicle.
The motive for the homicide is not known.
Tarrand was released from the Department of Corrections in November. He had been serving a 51-year sentence after being convicted of a homicide that also occurred in Sumter County in June 1993 when he was a juvenile. He was convicted of stabbing a 25-year-old woman 51 times. The woman left behind two young daughters.
Tarrand is facing a charge of first-degree and is being held without bond.
